Laser Welding and Engraving Services

Laser precision for mold repair, cavity marking, and component work.

Precision Laser Welding and Engraving for Molds and Components

Detail Mold & Manufacturing’s laser welding services cover fine-geometry repair and joining work where heat and scale matter. The laser engraving services side handles permanent marking, cavity identification, and precision surface work on steel and other metals. Both are available standalone or as part of our broader machining or mold repair program.

  • Laser Welding – Microscope-Enabled, Low Heat, Fine Scale

We run two microscope-enabled Laserstar welding systems. The process uses a laser to melt the filler rod and stitch weld the workpiece, producing a smaller heat zone and finer working scale than traditional TIG. Rod sizes run .004 to .030 inch across brass, aluminum, copper, titanium, and steel. Mold repair is the primary application.

  • Laser Engraving – New 100-Watt MOPA Fiber Laser

A new 100-watt MOPA fiber laser handles our laser engraving services and laser marking services. MOPA technology enables multicolor engraving on steel, cavity ID marking, firearms cutouts, and grip stippling, which are applications standard fiber lasers cannot replicate. We’re FFL licensed for serialized and non-serialized firearm component work.

Precision Applications That Other Methods Can’t Reach

Our laser welding and engraving capabilities are built for precision work where conventional methods fall short. Laser welding accesses geometry and heat profiles that traditional TIG cannot reach. The MOPA fiber laser produces surface detail and multicolor marking that puts our engraving capability in a different category from standard laser systems.

  • Mold repair welding at fine geometry with minimal heat transfer
  • Cavity and part ID engraving with .04mm fiber laser precision
  • Steel cutouts, grip stippling, and serialized marking for firearms
  • Multicolor engraving on steel via MOPA fiber laser technology
  • Weld material options including brass, aluminum, copper, titanium, and steel

Laser Welding as a Mold Repair Tool

Laser welding’s low heat signature and fine rod sizes make it the right repair method for injection molds where traditional welding would distort surrounding steel. Detail Mold & Manufacturing’s laser welding services manufacturer capability covers molds from any source, handling cavity repairs, welded modifications, and on-site re-sampling in the same program.

Mold Repair and Maintenance

We provide mold repair and maintenance for molds from any source, with laser welding and on-site sampling available.

FAQs

Traditional TIG generates significant heat that can distort hardened tool steel around the repair area. Laser welding uses a laser to melt the filler rod, producing a far smaller heat zone and working at rod sizes down to .004 inch. That combination allows precision access that conventional welding cannot reach, making laser welding services preferred for mold repair.

Standard fiber lasers produce single-color marks on metal. MOPA technology modulates pulse parameters independently, enabling multicolor engraving on steel without coatings or secondary processes. It also handles steel cutouts, stippling, and complex cavity ID work at a precision level standard systems cannot match.

Yes. Detail Mold & Manufacturing’s laser welding services and engraving work are available for molds from any source. Repair includes assessment, welding, and on-site sampling to confirm the result before the mold returns to production. For molds needing both repair and re-sampling, both steps happen through our team without requiring a separate vendor.
